Terrorist Gets 18 Years

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

It would be nice if we could see more trials like these in the United States.  At least we would know we were getting a return on our ‘war against terrorism’ investment.  This guy seems to think he deserves a medal for murdering a teacher.  I would give him one: bend over and I’ll shove a lead pipe up your a–!

An Indonesian court has sentenced a Singaporean man to 18 years in prison under the country’s anti-terrorism law. The court also sentenced two Indonesian men to 10 and 12 years on similar charges.

When the Jakarta court read out Mohammad Hasan bin Saynudin’s sentence, he yelled out “Allahu akbar” – “God is great.”

The militant Islamist was convicted, among other crimes, of orchestrating the 2007 murder of a teacher and plotting to bomb a café in Sumatra that was frequented by foreigners.

Hasan, who has several aliases, was linked to the militant group Jemaah Islamiyah and claims to have met Osama bin Laden while training in Afghanistan.

A judge at the trial said the defiant extremist admitted some of his crimes, but never showed remorse for what he did. Nonetheless, Hasan defended himself to the media.

“I do not think it is fair,”Hasan said. “I should be given a medal. A medal of recognition, not being in prison, so I will never accept this.”

The court sentenced two Indonesian men for collaborating with Hasan…

War Deserter Gets 1 Year

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

Some will consider this guy a hero, others a c0ward and a criminal.  Either way he’s doing time.  One year behind bars is better than a lifetime without a leg, I suppose.

Cliff Cornell will spend a year in prison for his conscience.

The U.S. army deserter who spent nearly three years working near here at a grocery store has been sentenced to a year in prison after pleading guilty to desertion.

It ends a saga that began in 2005 when Cliff Cornell walked away from the 1st Battalion, 39th Artillery Regiment in Fort Stewart, Ga., and travelled to Toronto.

After his arrival in Canada, Cornell became active in the War Resisters Support Campaign, something a spokesman for the group said affected his sentence.

“The U.S. military is punishing (him) for speaking out about (his) conscientious objections to the Iraq war,” said Ken Marciniec.

Cornell applied to stay in Canada but was deported. In February, he walked across the border, where he was briefly arrested, then released before he turned himself in to the military three days later.

On Tuesday, Cornell tearfully read a prepared statement to the judge, apologizing for leaving his unit. He told the judge that when his regiment was ordered to Iraq he became anxious about being asked to do things that go against his conscience…

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

It’s high time the Catholic Church improves their vetting process when it comes to hiring priests.  Read through half the child porn posts on this blog and they track back to members of the clergy.  This is what all that tithing is supporting???

Girl Missing in Florida

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

At this point foul play isn’t necessarily suspected, but if my 12 year old was missing I would suspect foul play.

Authorities are searching for a missing 12-year-old girl from the Haines City area who was last seen at her bus stop Monday.

Molli Alicia Dominguez told another child she wasn’t going to school and walked away while other children got on their bus.

She did not show up at school Monday and her family contacted the Polk County Sheriff’s Office on Monday night to report her missing.

“Molli is described as a [Latino] female, 4′11″ tall, 135 lbs., with long brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a red shirt and blue jean shorts, carrying a red backpack,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “Detectives are still following up leads on known associates of Molli’s but are also seeking the public’s help in locating her…”

Man Cuts Pacemaker from Father’s Heart

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Most parents would do anything for their kids.  They would give their last dollar, run into a burning building, spend their last dollar.  It would seem that Jesse Fierstine knew this and didn’t want to bother asking his father for his pacemaker.  So he just cut it out of him.  No mention of how this may affect the traditional bonds of the father-son relationship between these two.  What amazes me most about this story is that the dad’s heart continued to beat after suffering this kind of trauma.

Authorities in northeast Iowa say a man faces charges accusing him of cutting a pacemaker out of his father’s chest.

The Delaware County sheriff’s office says in a statement Sunday that 32-year-old Jesse Fierstine of Manchester struck his 63-year-old father, Charles Fierstine, on the head with a flashlight and a piece of firewood Saturday, then cut the pacemaker from his chest using a pocketknife.

The statement says the younger Fierstine was charged with attempted murder.

Charles Fierstine was taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Officials didn’t give details on his condition Sunday.

The sheriff’s office refused to release further details, referring questions to the county attorney’s office, which was closed for the weekend. Online court records in the case were not yet available and no attorney could be located for Jesse Fierstine…
