Omaha Homicide Map

It is interesting to note the huge disparity between this map and the one from Los Angeles.  So far this year Omaha has had 3 murders whereas L.A. has had 92.  This is an interesting tool for those interested in a more academic study of murder.  I hope we see more of these maps appear from other cities.

Missouri Leads Nation in Methamphetamine

This is a bit shocking.  I was convinced New Mexico held this dubious distinction.  We should take this info with a grain of salt, however.  Not all states report and this may just mean that law enforcement in this state is more effective at rooting out the perps.  In any event, it is surprising.

From the Kansas City Star:

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department says Missouri had more than 20 percent of all meth lab incidents nationwide in fiscal year 2008.

Jefferson County also had the most methamphetamine lab incidents in Missouri during the time, with about 200 reported…

Los Angeles Homicide Map

This is a link to an interesting map showing the location of the first 92 murders in L.A. County for 2009 as well as demgraphic info on the victims, cause of death, age and a variety of other info, including pictures.  You can also search by different criteria.  Note how many were from gunshot wounds.
