Man Accused of Raping Family Friend

Authorities arrested a local man after a grand jury indicted him for rape, sodomy and sexual abuse.

Matthew Marvin Stockman, 39, 1103 E. Eighth St., Tuscumbia, was arrested Monday by Colbert County deputies.

Stockman is accused of forcing a 15-year-old female family acquaintance to have sex with him on numerous occasions.

The indictment came during the April session of the grand jury. The Colbert County Department of Human Resources and Tuscumbia police investigated the case. The Cramer Children’s Center also was involved in the investigation.

Colbert County DHR initiated the case after the incidents were reported last September.

The victim said the forced sexual activity had been going on for some time. Authorities said the assaults took place at Stockman’s residence while the girl was visiting.

Stockman has denied the charges.

Investigators said the victim did not come forward initially because Stockman threatened her…

Police Capture Suspected Rapist

Police have picked up a suspect in the alleged rape of a 17-year-old girl in her home early Friday morning, apparently after having to use a stun gun on him.

Robert Joseph Taylor, 40, was picked up about 12:15 p.m. Friday in Fruitland Park after police received a tip he was renting a room there.

Lady Lake police Lt. Lori Davis said Taylor initially resisted arrest when police reached him and officers had to use Tasers to get him under control.

Davis said the man apparently was intoxicated at the time of the alleged rape, but had sobered up by the time officers arrested him.

Taylor, of Fruitland Park, was charged with sexual battery, battery and burglary. He is being held in the Lake County jail in lieu of $47,000 bail.

According to police, the victim had been acquainted with the suspect. The victim told investigators the man knocked on her door about 1:30 a.m. Friday looking for her mother’s boyfriend. When she opened the door the man forced his way into the home, knowing she was alone, and allegedly raped and beat her…
